Oak Garden Room Where timeless oak craftsmanship meets sweeping garden views. This elegant oak-framed Garden Room extension reimagines an Edwardian home in Essex, introducing a bright, versatile space designed for year-round living. With French doors to the garden and patio and crowned with a vaulted oak structure, it blurs the boundary between indoors and out while ensuring comfort in every season. Project Details 2022 Essex 4.5m x 6m Edwardian-Style Home Connecting Home and Garden The Harris family had a spacious patio that was rarely enjoyed to its full potential. They envisioned a space that would immerse them in their garden while providing protection from the ever-changing British weather. Their goal was a flexible room - somewhere to unwind, host guests, cook and experience the outdoors without sacrificing comfort. The original uPVC extension had issues with not only temperature control but also a couple of niggling small leaks which were proving impossible to fix. Light, Space and Seamless Views Albion Oak brought this vision to life with a bespoke Garden Room designed to maximise light and connection to the landscape. A striking glazed gable, and 1800mm wide French doors giving access and views of the garden. In warmer months, the doors fold away, turning the room into an open, airy extension of the outdoors. To ensure harmony with the original Edwardian property, materials were carefully selected to match the existing brickwork and roof tiles. The insulated tiled roof not only completes the aesthetic but also maintains a pleasant temperature throughout the year. Our designer created an initial sketch of the proposed garden room before turning this into a 3d model of the proposed structure. Mr and Mrs Harris were happy with the design and decided to order their new oak garden room. A Room for All Seasons Inside, a vaulted ceiling creates a sense of height, warmth and craftsmanship. The original house already had exposed oak joists so the Harris’s opted for softwood rafters in the garden room with purlins and a plaster finish. The natural beauty of the oak frame draws the eye upward, combining traditional character with lasting appeal. The space now functions as an open-plan kitchen and dining room, allowing daylight to flow deeper into the home. In winter, it becomes a cosy retreat, in summer, it evolves into a shaded yet open entertaining space, perfect for relaxed gatherings that stretch into the evening. A Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Sanctuary What was once an underused patio is now a vibrant, year-round living space. The Harris family’s Oak Garden Room celebrates light, nature, and comfort, transforming how they experience their home. By combining the enduring elegance of oak with contemporary glazing, this project reflects Albion Oak’s expertise in creating spaces that enhance both architecture and everyday living.
