One of the characteristics of green oak is that as it dries, it shrinks which pulls the mortice and tenon joints making the oak frame a tight fit. This strengthens and adds charm to the building and splits & shakes are an expected part of the beauty and character of the building and do not cause any structural issues.
Hundreds of years if not longer. An oak frame will even last longer in a fire than a steel frame! The oak will get harder as it ages.
Traditional oak framed extensions, insulated to building regulations, will stay warm in the winter and cooler in the summer.
For every tree felled we plant three more ensuring the sustainability of oak framing. Growing trees absorb more CO² than a mature tree thereby helping to reduce greenhouse gases. Timber is the only truly renewable building resource.
